The Town of Collingwood has announced the next phase of the Rapid Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Deployment Program, by issuing a call for detached ADU designs. Interested designers, architects and manufacturers are invited to submit their detached ADU designs for pre-approval by the Town’s Building Department.
“These pre-approved designs will help streamline the permitting process for homeowners who are interested in building ADUs. We hope that this helps everyone see how an ADU might look and fit on their properties, with the ultimate goal of getting more ADUs built quicker and adding more rental units in our community.”Mayor Yvonne Hamlin
The Town is seeking prefabricated/modular and conventional construction designs in two categories: small footprint (up to 450 sq. ft.) and family friendly (451 sq. ft. – 807 sq ft.). All designs must meet Ontario Building Code requirements to be considered for pre-approval. The Town encourages manufacturers and designers to consider privacy, architectural context, green building design, and accessibility.
Designs that are pre-approved through this program will be showcased on the Town’s website later this year.
Rapid ADU Deployment Program
The Rapid ADU Deployment Program aims to increase the supply of affordable housing in Collingwood by making it easier for homeowners to add ADUs to their properties. This neighbours-helping-neighbours approach helps homeowners contribute to solutions to the housing crisis by increasing the supply of year-round rental housing while earning rental income. Financial incentives are available to help offset fees and start-up costs. More details on Rapid ADU Deployment Program grants can be found at: www.collingwood.ca/rapid-adu/financial-incentives
