The cost of living is skyrocketing, and as a result, many hardworking individuals and families are finding it increasingly difficult to secure a stable and secure place to call home.
“Housing affordability is a critical issue. If we want a sustainable community, we need housing for people who work in our Town. The lack of affordable housing has a ripple effect that touches every aspect of our lives.”Mayor Yvonne Hamlin
The lack of affordable housing is a problem that Collingwood residents cannot afford to ignore. The issue cannot be solved by any one group alone – it requires a collaborative effort from all of us. That’s why the Town of Collingwood is asking the community to come together to address this issue.
On Tuesday, June 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., the Town of Collingwood, in collaboration with the Affordable Housing Task Force, is hosting a virtual information session about the development of an Affordable Housing Master Plan. The Affordable Housing Master Plan will give the Town prioritized, costed and actionable direction to play its role in addressing the affordable housing crisis.
Community members are invited to learn about the current housing needs and affordability challenges with an overview of the Housing Needs Assessment (to be released later this month). This assessment includes a comprehensive market survey of the rental, resale and new home sale market is also being conducted to provide a snapshot of current Collingwood-specific market pricing, trends, and characteristics, including the impact of rising interest rates.
Participants will also learn about next steps in the Master Plan process and will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts. This is an opportunity to understand the challenges we are facing as a community so that we can work together on solutions that prioritize affordable housing in Collingwood.
