If you own property, live in, or run a business in Downtown Collingwood, be prepared for a visit from the Collingwood Fire Department this summer.
In an effort to work towards a fire safe community, the Collingwood Fire Department will be conducting Fire & Life Safety Inspections in Downtown Collingwood throughout July and August. The Fire Prevention Division will be inspecting all commercial and residential units. Building owners will be contacted in order to give advance notice of entry to tenants. Pamphlets providing notice of the upcoming inspections will be delivered to all affected units.
Things Fire Prevention Staff will be inspecting include commercial kitchens, fire alarms and sprinkler systems, fire safety plans, accumulation of combustibles, use of extension cords or power bars as permanent wiring, residential smoke/CO alarms, fire separations and fire extinguishers.
“The primary goal of this inspection program is education and understanding the hazards and potentially life-threatening risks that can be mitigated by sometimes simple fixes,” says Jeff Gage, Fire Prevention Officer. “The Collingwood Fire Department appreciates your anticipated cooperation with this essential Fire Prevention Program.”
