Council Approves Blues Contract Extension

In an emergency meeting held yesterday, Council voted to extend the tenancy agreement with the Mike Jackson GM Collingwood Blues, Jr. A team.

The tenancy agreement will continue to include the Town sharing 30% of the advertising revenue generated through the two municipal arenas, starting at about $38,000 per year.  This amount is guaranteed to grow by a minimum of the Consumer Price Index each year, and in the past few years has grown on average by 8% over the last several years. It also includes a 10-year term with the option to renew for a further 10 years. This helps ensure stability for both parties in a mutually beneficial partnership.

“Christina and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Town of Collingwood for the next ten years. We have come to love the community and the strong relationships we have formed with so many.  We also hope to continue to lead on the ice and in the community. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.”

Additionally, provisions have been made to ensure the continuation of allocating ice time to other user groups during the Blues non-prime hours where practical and with notice.  Finally, main floor concessions will be made available to other user groups upon request.

“I would like to thank Dave and Christina Steele, the Blues Executive, and the team for their patience and cooperation throughout the contract negotiations. The Town of Collingwood appreciates what having the Blues in Collingwood means to our community and Council is pleased to extend our Town’s support for the Team for many years to come. On behalf of Council, I wish the Mike Jackson Collingwood Blues continued good luck for the remainder of this season and many more!”
